Best Adventure Activities in the Dolomites 2026

Adrenaline Adventures

The Dolomites are not just mountains β€” they are a geological masterpiece, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009, and one of the most dramatic landscapes on Earth. Pale towers of ancient rock rise sharply above emerald valleys, their colours shifting from gold to pink as the sun crosses the sky. But these mountains are meant to be experienced, not just admired. And in 2026, the range of adventure activities available here has never been greater.

Whether you crave pure adrenaline or prefer to explore nature at your own pace, here is your definitive guide to the best adventures in the Dolomites.

Zipline β€” The Ultimate Dolomites Experience

7 routes, 3 km of flight, speeds up to 80 km/h and heights of 100 metres β€” the Adrenaline Adventures zipline in San Vigilio di Marebbe is the most complete adventure experience in the Dolomites.

If one experience defines adventure in the Dolomites, it is the Adrenaline Adventures zipline. This is not a single cable: it features 7 distinct routes across 9 platforms, covering a total of 3 kilometres of flight at heights of up to 100 metres above ground. The overall elevation drop is 400 metres, with the longest single route stretching 800 metres.

As you fly, the panorama unfolds in every direction: UNESCO-listed peaks, ancient conifer forests, and alpine meadows that shift colour with the seasons. The full experience lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and includes a scenic ride on the Pedaga chairlift.

It is no surprise the zipline was ranked among the best ziplines in Europe β€” the setting is simply unmatched.

Hiking and Via Ferrata β€” The Classic Dolomite Experience

The Dolomites are a hiker's paradise. With over 1,000 km of marked trails in the Val Badia and Val Pusteria area alone, options range from gentle family walks to multi-day traverses through high-altitude landscapes.

Must-Do Hikes

  • Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park: trails for every level, from easy loops to challenging ridge walks
  • Lake Braies (Pragser Wildsee): the most photographed lake in South Tyrol, 40 minutes by car from San Vigilio di Marebbe
  • Piz de Plaies: an easy, panoramic trail perfect for first-time visitors

Via Ferrata

For those seeking a greater challenge, the Dolomites' via ferrata routes are legendary. Originally built during World War I, these protected climbing routes use steel cables, ladders and bridges to guide climbers up vertical rock faces in relative safety. Among the best nearby: the Via Ferrata delle Trincee on Lagazuoi and the Brigata Alpina Tridentina.

Mountain Biking and E-Biking

The Dolomites have rapidly become one of Europe's top mountain biking destinations. The trails around San Vigilio cater to every ability:

  • Cross-country: rolling routes through forests and alpine pastures with stunning views
  • Enduro and downhill: technical descents with serious elevation drops
  • E-bike: ideal for exploring more terrain with less effort β€” charging stations are widespread

In summer, many ski lifts carry bikes, allowing riders to focus on the descents.

Paragliding and Other Activities

The sky above the Dolomites is as spectacular as the ground below. Tandem paragliding flights with certified instructors launch from above 2,000 metres, offering a bird's-eye view of the peaks and valleys.

Other activities worth trying:

  • Sport climbing: equipped crags and natural bouldering areas
  • Rafting and canyoning: in the side valleys during summer months
  • Horse riding: guided excursions across alpine meadows
