There is a moment in the day when the Dolomites zipline becomes something entirely different. As the sun sinks towards the horizon, the light turns golden, shadows stretch across the valleys and the Dolomite walls begin to glow with the colours of the enrosadira. Flying at that moment is not simply adrenaline — it is poetry in motion.
The sunset zipline is the most requested and most emotional experience we offer. If you are looking for a way to make your Dolomites holiday truly unforgettable, read on.
The Enrosadira Seen from the Sky
The enrosadira is the optical phenomenon that transforms the Dolomites into a living painting at sunset. The Dolomite walls — rich in calcium and magnesium carbonate — reflect the low sun and turn shades of pink, orange, red and violet. The phenomenon lasts around 20-30 minutes and every instant is different from the last.
Now imagine seeing all of this not from the ground, but suspended in flight between the mountains. The perspective from the zipline is unique: you are not watching the enrosadira — you are flying through it. The walls light up around you, above and below, as you soar at speed between the peaks. It is a multisensory experience involving sight, touch (the cool evening air) and that feeling of absolute freedom that only flight can give.
The enrosadira takes its name from the Ladin word "enrosadura" (to turn pink). According to legend, King Laurin cursed his rose garden on the mountains, making it invisible "by day and by night". But he forgot twilight — and so, at sunset, the Dolomites still turn the pink of his roses.
Why Sunset Changes Everything
The Golden Light
Photographers call it the "golden hour" — the hour before sunset when light becomes warm, soft and enveloping. On the sunset zipline, this light transforms every frame into a work of art. Colours are more intense, contrasts softer, and the mountains seem to glow from within.
Fewer People, More Magic
The last slots of the day are naturally less crowded. While mornings and early afternoons see the zipline at full capacity, towards evening the atmosphere becomes more intimate and relaxed. Less waiting, more time to savour every moment.
Perfect Temperatures
In summer, midday hours can be warm even in the mountains. At sunset, temperatures drop to perfect levels — cool but not cold, with a gentle breeze that makes the flight even more enjoyable.
The Romantic Atmosphere
There is something inherently romantic about flying over mountains while the sky turns pink and orange. The sunset zipline has become one of our most requested experiences for couples — and it is not hard to see why.
How to Book the Sunset Slot
To experience the sunset zipline, you need to book the last available slot of the day. In summer, approximate times are:
| Month | Last slot approx. | Sunset | |-------|-------------------|--------| | June | 19:30-20:00 | 21:10 | | July | 19:30-20:00 | 21:05 | | August | 19:00-19:30 | 20:30 | | September | 18:00-18:30 | 19:30 |
The last slot is by far the most requested. Book at least 2 weeks in advance, especially in July and August. Contact us directly to check availability and secure the perfect time for sunset.
What to Expect
Before the Flight
Arrive at our starting point about 30 minutes before your booked time. The safety briefing and equipment take a few minutes, and this extra time lets you soak in the atmosphere as evening approaches. The light is already changing, shadows lengthening, the air growing cooler.
During the Flight
The zipline route stretches for 3 km between the mountains. At sunset, each section offers a different perspective on the changing light. The first stretch catches the golden side light, while the final flights often coincide with the start of the enrosadira — the Dolomite walls lighting up around you.
The speed is always thrilling, but at sunset there is an added dimension: the contrast between the adrenaline of flight and the contemplative beauty of the landscape creates an emotion that many of our guests describe as "the most beautiful moment of the holiday".
After the Flight
Do not leave straight away. The minutes after sunset are often the most beautiful — the enrosadira colours peak in the 10-15 minutes following official sunset. Stay, breathe, photograph. It is a moment to savour.
Photo Tips
The sunset zipline offers extraordinary photographic opportunities. Here is how to make the most of them:
Equipment
- GoPro or action cam: the best choice for the flight — rugged, wide-angle, stabilised
- Smartphone: works well if secured with a wrist strap (we provide the safety system)
- Burst mode: take as many shots as possible during the flight — you will choose the best afterwards
Settings
- HDR on: to capture both bright sky areas and mountain shadows
- Slow-motion video: the flight in slow-mo at sunset is spectacular for social media
- Portrait mode off: in flight you need wide-angle to capture the landscape
Composition
- Look towards the illuminated mountains, not towards the sun
- Include the zipline cable in the frame — it adds perspective and dynamism
- The most incredible shots come when the light hits the Dolomite walls
