Zipline vs Bungee vs Paragliding: Which to Choose?

Adrenaline Adventures

Planning an adrenaline-filled holiday in the Dolomites and unsure which experience to choose? Zipline, bungee jumping and paragliding are three of the most popular adventure activities — but they are very different from one another. In this guide, we compare them side by side to help you pick the one that suits you best.

The Three Experiences Compared

Zipline: Flying Between Mountains

The zipline in San Vigilio di Marebbe is a 7-section course covering 3 km of flight above forests, alpine meadows and dramatic gorges. You fly attached to a steel cable, reaching speeds of up to 80 km/h and heights of 100 metres above the ground.

The experience lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, with pauses between sections to catch your breath and soak in the panorama. No prior experience is needed and the requirements are minimal: weight between 40 and 120 kg.

Bungee Jumping: The Leap into the Void

Bungee jumping is pure adrenaline compressed into a few seconds. You leap from a bridge or platform and free-fall until the elastic cord springs you back upward. The entire experience lasts less than one minute, but those seconds of free fall are among the most intense you will ever live.

In and around the Dolomites, the main options include bridges and platforms with drops ranging from 50 to 192 metres.

Paragliding: Soaring Like an Eagle

Tandem paragliding lets you fly above the Dolomite valleys for 20 to 40 minutes, gliding on thermal currents with a certified instructor. Take-off happens from an alpine meadow at around 2,000 metres, with landing in the valley below. The sensation is floating, not falling.

Fear Factor: Which Wins?

Bungee jumping is by far the most terrifying experience. That moment standing on the edge, having to decide to jump into the void, goes against every survival instinct. Many people are unable to go through with the jump.

Paragliding generates anxiety mainly at take-off, but once airborne the sensation is surprisingly serene. The canopy above gives a feeling of security.

The zipline offers a perfect balance between thrill and comfort. The harness keeps you securely attached and the departure is gradual — there is no "leap into the void". This makes it ideal for anyone who wants strong emotions without the sheer terror of bungee jumping.

Our experience shows that around 95% of participants complete the zipline without any issues, even those with a slight fear of heights. For bungee, that figure drops to 70-80%.

Duration of the Experience

Here the zipline is unmatched. With 90 minutes of adventure spread across 7 sections, you have time to savour every moment, take mental snapshots and enjoy the scenery from ever-changing angles.

Bungee lasts literally a few seconds of pure action. Paragliding offers a decent compromise at 20-40 minutes of flight, but the zipline remains the longest and most complete experience.

Scenery and Photography

Paragliding offers the broadest perspective — you see the mountains from above like a bird. But the zipline delivers more varied and close-up views: coniferous forests seen from above, deep gorges, alpine meadows and Dolomite peaks that shift perspective with every section.

If you want to take home video memories of your adventure, the zipline offers a 4K video package for €29 with professional footage of the entire course. Bungee videos are often lower quality, and with paragliding it depends on the instructor.

Bungee, unfortunately, is not ideal for panoramic photos — when you are falling into the void, scenery is the last thing on your mind!

Accessibility and Limits

The zipline is by far the most accessible of the three activities:

  • No age limit (children welcome with an adult)
  • Wide weight range (40-120 kg)
  • No particular fitness level required
  • Suitable even for those with a fear of heights (gradual start)

Bungee has stricter restrictions on weight and age, and many locations require you to be at least 16-18 years old. Tandem paragliding is fairly accessible, but depends heavily on weather — strong wind or low clouds means no flying.

Price and Value for Money

In terms of cost per minute of experience, the zipline offers the best value:

  • Zipline: €89 for ~90 minutes = roughly €1 per minute
  • Bungee: €100-180 for ~1 minute = €100-180 per minute
  • Paragliding: €150-200 for ~30 minutes = roughly €5-7 per minute

Of course, the value of an experience cannot be measured in minutes alone. But if you are looking for maximum enjoyment for your budget, the zipline wins by a wide margin.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose the zipline if you:

  • Want a long, complete experience
  • Are travelling with family or friends of different ages
  • Love panoramic views and want to enjoy the flight
  • Are trying an adrenaline activity for the first time
  • Want the best value for money

Choose bungee if you:

  • Seek the purest, most intense adrenaline rush possible
  • Want to conquer a specific fear
  • Care about intensity, not duration

Choose paragliding if you:

  • Want the sensation of flying freely
  • Prefer a calm, contemplative experience
  • Love aerial photography
