Autumn Zipline: The Colours Make Everything Better

Adrenaline Adventures

There is a moment in the year when the zipline in the Dolomites becomes something entirely different. Not better than summer — different. An experience that engages all your senses in a new and unexpected way. That moment is autumn, when the larches turn to gold, the air becomes crystal clear and the Dolomite walls light up with the colours of the Enrosadira. If you have always thought of the zipline as a summer activity, prepare to change your mind.

Why Autumn Changes Everything

A Golden Carpet Below You

Picture yourself flying at 80 km/h above the Dolomite valleys. In summer you see a green sea of conifers. In autumn, the scene transforms completely: the larches — the only European conifer that drops its needles — turn an intense golden yellow that contrasts spectacularly with the dark green of the spruces and the pale grey of the Dolomite walls. The result is a mosaic of colours that looks like an Impressionist painting viewed from above.

This natural spectacle lasts just a few weeks, generally from late September to mid-October, making every flight during this period a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Crystal-Clear Air and Endless Visibility

Summer humidity gives way to days of extraordinary clarity. In autumn, visibility in the Dolomites can exceed 100 km on the best days. This means that during your flight you can pick out every detail of the landscape with pin-sharp definition: mountain ridges, distant refuges, streams glinting through the trees. The crisp air makes everything more defined, more real, more present.

The Enrosadira is the optical phenomenon that colours the Dolomite walls pink, orange and red during sunrise and sunset. In autumn, with clearer air and the sun lower on the horizon, the Enrosadira is particularly intense and lasts longer. From the zipline, with a view of the Dolomites, the spectacle is breathtaking.

Perfect Temperatures for Adventure

Summer in the Dolomites can also mean hot days, especially around midday. In autumn, temperatures drop into the ideal range for outdoor activities: between 8 and 18 degrees C. This translates into greater comfort during the experience — no sweat, no stifling heat, just fresh air wrapping around you as you fly between the mountains.

The helmet and harness feel more comfortable, and the whole experience is physically more pleasant.

Fewer People, More Emotion

Autumn is the shoulder season in the Dolomites. Families have returned home after the summer holidays, and the ski season has not yet begun. This means smaller groups, more time to savour each flight, more personalised attention from our guides and — a detail not to be underestimated — more silence. In autumn you can truly hear the sound of the wind and the rustle of the trees below you.

The Best Weeks

Not all of autumn is equal for the zipline. Here is a week-by-week guide:

Late September (25 September - 5 October)

The larches begin to change colour starting from the highest elevations. Days are still long and mild. Perfect for catching the start of the transformation.

First Half of October (6 - 15 October)

The golden period. The larches are at their peak, the colours are explosive and the days are still long enough to enjoy the best light. This is our number one recommendation.

Second Half of October (16 - 31 October)

The colours begin to fade at lower elevations but remain magnificent at altitude. Days are shorter but the low sun creates spectacular light. Ideal for photographers.

Want maximum visual impact? Book the zipline in the late afternoon during the first half of October. The raking light of the autumn sun turns the larches an even more intense gold and the Dolomite walls glow with the Enrosadira just as you are in flight. It is the perfect photograph.

Photography from the Autumn Zipline

The autumn zipline is a paradise for photography lovers. Here is what makes autumn shots special:

  • Colour contrasts: gold of the larches, green of the spruces, white-grey of the Dolomites, intense blue of the sky
  • Golden light: the low sun creates long shadows and warm light that enhances every detail
  • Morning mists: in the early hours the valleys can be wrapped in fine veils of mist, creating a fairy-tale effect from above
  • Dew and frost: on the coldest mornings, the meadows sparkle with ice crystals

What to Wear in Autumn

The right clothing makes all the difference for fully enjoying the autumn experience:

  1. Layers: thermal base layer, fleece mid-layer, windproof jacket
  2. Light gloves: your hands are exposed to the wind during the flight
  3. Neck warmer or buff: protects from the cool breeze without being bulky
  4. Long trousers: comfortable and preferably technical
  5. Closed shoes with good grip: the paths can be damp from fallen leaves

No heavy equipment is needed — our safety guide explains everything you need.

Combine the Zipline with Dolomite Autumn

Autumn in the Dolomites offers much more than the zipline. Here is how to build an unforgettable day:

Early morning: easy walk among the golden larches, perhaps towards one of the most beautiful lakes in the area.

Late morning: zipline experience with 7 lines above the autumn mosaic of the Dolomites.

Lunch: stop at a mountain hut for a hot dish — canederli, barley soup, polenta with venison.

Afternoon: cultural visit or local wine tasting.

The Emotions of Those Who Have Tried It

Those who have flown our zipline in autumn describe the experience with recurring words: "surreal", "magical", "unforgettable". There is something about being suspended above a sea of warm colours, with crisp air on your face and the mountains lit up by the Enrosadira, that stays in the memory differently from any other season.

It is not just adrenaline — it is wonder. And autumn in the Dolomites knows how to deliver wonder like few other places on earth.
